Mahashivratri 2023 Fasting Instructions from the Scriptures

The following guidelines are described in our scriptures as necessary to observe the Mahashivratri 2023 Vrata (fasting):

  • Mahashivratri is observed on the first day if the full Nishithkaal falls under Chaturdashi Tithi (the fourteenth day according to the Hindu calendar).
  • Nishith Kaal is the name of the night’s eighth Muhurat. In other words, Mahashivratri is only observed on the first day if the eighth Muhurat of the night comes within Chaturdashi Tithi.
  • Mahashivratri is observed on the first day if Chaturdashi Tithi touches the first portion of the Nishith Kaal on the next day and the full Nishith Kaal falls within Chaturdashi Tithi on a preceding day.
  • Aside from the two prerequisites indicated above, the fast is always observed the next day.

How to register for the Isha Mahashivratri 2023?

Online registration for the event has begun. Additionally, you can check the website to see if any seats are still available before making a reservation by WhatsApp message. You can also phone the foundation’s helpline, which is listed on its website.

You will need the printout of the E-pass that was received through email in addition to a valid government-issued picture ID to participate in the celebrations in person at the Isha Yoga Center. 

Only reservations made in advance are accepted for lodging at the centre.
